Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali, Head of the Southern Transitional Council in Socotra, and Sultan Ali bin Issa bin Afrar, Head of the Development Committee, inaugurated outlets selling basic foodstuffs at subsidized prices, as part of the support of the United Arab Emirates.
An official explained that the materials are being sold at subsidized and discounted prices from the market, and this comes in light of the keenness of the UAE and its humanitarian institutions to help the island’s residents due to the significant increase in the prices of basic commodities in the local market as a result of the decline in the national currency.
He pointed out that 6 outlets for sale have been opened in different places on the island, serving 5588 villages and regions and 15,147 families at the governorate level.
Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali praised the continuous and permanent support of the brothers in the UAE to the people of the archipelago and its residents, alleviating their suffering in various aspects that touch their lives and improving their living and service conditions. He pointed out that the inauguration of outlets for selling basic foodstuffs at subsidized prices is of great importance in reducing the suffering of the people on the island from the crazy rise in food commodities with daily needs for every family for reasons related to the depreciation of the local currency against foreign currencies.
Sultan Ali bin Issa bin Afrar said that this step provided by the UAE in terms of subsidizing food prices contributed to ending the suffering of families suffering from the high price of materials. He praised the efforts of the UAE and its humanitarian institutions represented by the Khalifa Foundation and the Emirates Red Crescent, which provided examples of humanitarian work that touches the reality of citizens’ lives.
The sale process witnessed a great popular welcome and joy due to the importance of this step and the humanitarian gesture on the standard of living of families in the archipelago.
