With the support of Khalifa Foundation… Launch of the Late Ahmed Bin Hamdoun Football Championship in Socotra, in a Festive Atmosphere

The football championship of the late Ahmed Abdullah bin Hamdoun for sports clubs in Socotra Governorate was launched at the stadium of the late Saad Ali Salmeen in the city of Hadiboh, which was organized by the branch of the Football Federation, with the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

The launch ceremony of the championship, which was attended by the leadership of the Transitional Council, the local authority, the security and military services, and a large gathering of fans, witnessed the participation of folk arts teams and children who drew a beautiful painting that reflected the importance of the championship to everyone because of the name of a personality who did her best for Socotra and its children.

The opening match, whose whistle sounded, brought together the son of the late Suleiman Ahmed bin Hamdoun, Al Hilal Club, the holder of the fifth Sheikh Zayed Championship, with Al Mina Club, which ended in a positive tie.

At the inauguration ceremony of the tournament, Nazim Mubarak bin Qabalan, Vice-President of the Southern Transitional Council in Socotra Governorate, stressed the importance of the tournament in revitalizing the sports movement and highlighting new talents and providing them with an opportunity to highlight sports competition, pointing out that it is nice that this tournament bears the name of a personality the size of the late Governor Ahmed bin Hamdoun, who He did everything he could during his tenure in the governorate to advance it in terms of service and development.

Bin Qabalan praised the efforts of the Khalifa Foundation for its generous support in the sports sector to advance it to a better reality by organizing a number of competitions, qualifying programs and material and moral support for the federation and clubs.

For his part, Raed Al-Juraibi, the Senior Deputy Governor of Socotra Governorate, indicated that the launch of the championship of the late in the province and the homeland, Ahmed bin Hamdoun, may God have mercy on him, is a distinguished step in repaying the loyalty he made towards this island throughout his life. The championship was an opportunity for clubs to activate their activities and create a distinguished football competition between them.

Al-Juraibi valued the support of the brothers in the UAE for the youth and sports sectors in the governorate, which was one of the most successful files that contributed to preserving this important segment and encouraging it to engage in sports.

Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Diksmi gave a speech about the family of the late, in which he touched on the efforts made by the deceased during his tenure in the governorate and his keenness to unite everyone, unite the ranks and the word, and shed light on division and diaspora for the sake of Socotra and working to implement vital projects with the support of the brothers in the UAE to establish a strong infrastructure for the governorate Al-Dexami noted the humanitarian and developmental role of the Emirates on the island, and the support it has made over the past years in various fields of life and bringing the reality of the archipelago to a better reality.

Ahmed Hazoum, the Head of the Football Federation, welcomed all the attendees at the opening of the tournament, stressing that the championship of the late bin Hamdoun is one of the tournaments that has resonance and importance at the level of the island and the country.

He valued the support of the Foundation for the branch of the Federation and the sports clubs in the province, and the keenness of its delegate to take care of the youth and athletes segment, and his continuous guidance in organizing various tournaments and activities on the island.

The championship ceremony, which lasted for a month and a half, in which 17 clubs in the governorate were participating, divided into 4 groups, witnessed the raising of banners expressing the thanks of the sports sector for the support provided by the UAE to the island in various sectors, including the sports sector.

The match was refereed by Ammar Sabab, a referee, and his assistant, Mukhtar Muhammad, Mujahid Saeed, and Khamis Sheikhan, a fourth referee, Ismail Muhammad, a referee, and Salma Salem, a match observer.

The launch was attended by the Brigadier General Rokn Saleh Ali, Deputy Governor; General Saleh Ali, Secretary of Football Federation; and a number of general managers, heads of political components, members of the Championship Federation, heads of sports clubs, sheikhs, dignitaries, social figures, and a large crowd of fans.
