The distribution centers of basic foodstuffs supported by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation are witnessing a great and continuous demand by citizens to obtain their basic food needs and benefit from discounts of more than 30% of the value of the commodity during the storm season.

This step comes in light of the continuous cooperation and support it provides to the people of the archipelago, which contributed to alleviating the burdens of citizens in light of the rise in food prices in the local market due to its impact on the devaluation of the national currency and the suspension of the marine navigator as a result of the winds.

Raed Al-Juraibi, Senior Undersecretary of Socotra Governorate, indicated that we are pleased with these price reductions on basic materials with the support of the brothers in the UAE, which witnessed a great turnout from citizens in the previous stages.

He pointed out that the reduction rate was satisfactory to all, which amounted to more than 30%, and that the existing quantities covered the autumn season.

He pointed out that these materials are supported by the United Arab Emirates, so thanks to the Khalifa Foundation for this aid and the humanitarian gesture enjoyed by the people of Socotra. Securing the needs of the people throughout the windy season, at lower prices than in the local market.

The Foundation’s team was keen to open separate sales centers on the island to ensure that citizens receive their needs easily and permanently. The subsidized materials included rice, sugar, flour, and oil. The number of distributed centers reached 6, including 5 in Hadiboh district and one in Qalansiyah district.

It is worth noting that the distributions were officially launched as a first phase on November 30 of last year, in the presence of the leadership of the local authority, the Transitional Council, sheikhs, dignitaries and social figures, in response to the calls of the people on the island, and the first phase continued to February of this year to start in the middle of the second phase and then the third phase Coming to the fourth stage today.
