The visit of the Delegation of Abu Dhabi Development Fund in the United Arab Emirates to Socotra Governorate was largely welcomed by the people of Socotra, since it would open a wide prospective towards prosperity and development on the Island targeting a bright future.
The Delegation of Abu Dhabi Development Fund in the United Arab Emirates laid the foundation for 4 developmental plants in the Socotra Archipelago; Prime Fish, Tuna Preparation and Fish Drying, Prime Mineral Water and Juice, Prime Dates, and Prime Salt Packaging.
These projects would contribute to provision of requirements of the Governorate in these fields in addition to provision of hundreds of job opportunities for the people of Socotra aiming at promoting development and trade across the Archipelago.
Head of Al Wehda Association, Saad Mohamed Khamis, praised the efforts of the United Arab Emirates and its continuous concern with development of the Governorate and promotion of the fish sector through significant developmental projects.
Sheikh Mohamed Salem Al Selimi, identifier of the west coast areas, said that the foundation of group of developmental projects was a victory for the people of Socotra, which would achieve self-sufficiency.
Sheikh Ali Faisal Al Basiri highlighted the importance of these plants in Socotra in order to limit export of tuna, mineral water, juice, and salt, and provide these products in Socotra.
The Delegation visited Prime Fish Plant, which was considered as the main marketing entity for products of fishermen.
Furthermore, the Delegation visited Holaf Port, which was supported by Khalifa Foundation for development, expansion and fencing in addition to the service facilities. The Delegation visited the expansion project of Ali bin Taleb School and the medical center as well in order to recognize the main needs for work improvement.
