With presence of the Director General of Culture Office in Socotra, the Socotri Poetry and Literature Association assembled in the headquarters of Sultan Ali bin Essa bin Afrar and discussed preparations for the 5th Edition of the Poet of Socotra Competition supported by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation on Thursday 29th of July 2021.
The meeting discussed the preparation steps and procedures for the launch of the competition in line with events of the 5th Edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival in order to ensure its distinguishable success.
In this regard, Mr. Omar Suliman bin Qablan, Director General of Culture Office in Socotra, mentioned that we discussed, with members of the Socotri Poetry and Literature Association, the mechanism of holding the 5th edition of the competition supported by Khalifa Foundation. In addition, the meeting selected the judges for the competition. He also commended efforts of Khalifa Foundation, represented by His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazrouei, in holding festivals and competitions that would promote the Socotri culture and literature.
The Poet/ Abdullah Saeed Suliman Batmahi, Head of the Socotri Poetry and Literature Association, highlighted that this season would be different, as number of competitors would be different. The number of competitors would be ranged from 9 to 12 poets, who would be divided into 3 groups; 4 poets in each.
The Poet/ Mohamed Saad Qassem, who was named Mureeh, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for holding such festivals and events that concerned with promoting the Socotri heritage.
The Poet/ Ahmed Saad Darmihi, champion of the previous edition, asserted that he would present in this edition with other champions in the previous editions as guests of honor.
