The activities of the Sixth Sheikh Zayed Cultural Heritage Sports Festival for the year 2022, launched on Thursday evening in Sheikh Zayed City 1, in the Seteroh, in South of Socotra, with the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The opening ceremony of the festival, which was organized with an official presence to attend the official opening ceremony of Socotri art, marine heritage performances, women’s handicrafts and food shows throughout the ages.
The festival also witnessed a children’s show in the old Socotra costume, older than the traditional lyrical paragraphs created by the women’s band.
The festival, which would be held for nearly two months, would host a Socotri poetry competition and a football tournament. Various competitions for camels, ancient games, and a question and answer for 20 different questions, with the distribution of financial prizes to the public on a daily basis, in addition to a camel ride, Mazayna for the public, the Socotra date competition, handicrafts and other cultural activities and events in introducing its visitors to the heritage of Socotra. Large and diverse, confirming the depth of its history and authentic civilization.

Raed Al-Juraibi, Deputy Governor, said that the engineering project has boosted life-level projects in the region. It was known that the festival was a love affair in displaying the nature of the ancient life of the Socotra man and preserving it from extinction, as well as the new generation with this distinctive heritage diversity.
Al-Juraibi praised the efforts of the brothers in the UAE to support the establishment of these festivals on an annual basis, making it a popular platform and a destination for every lover of research in the authentic heritage aspect.
In addition, the audience attended the different sections of the festival and got acquainted with the exhibits of sections of heritage materials and works and the ancient citizens of Socotra.
The opening of the festival was attended by the Governorate Deputy Brigadier General Saleh Ali, the Director General of Police Brigadier General Ali Al-Dixami, the Director General of Culture Omar Qabalan, the Sheikh of Socotra Sheikhs Suleiman Shalulha and the Staff of the War of the 1st Marine Brigade Mohsen, the leaders, sheikhs and dignitaries.
