The support provided by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation to the sports sector in Socotra was of great importance and an essential axis in the continuation of the activities of clubs and their sports teams, as it was keen to support and implement various sports activities that contributed to preserving young people and encouraging them to practice their sporting hobby and hone their abilities for the better.
During the year 2021, the Foundation provided support to the branch of the General Football Association to implement several team and individual sports activities, the whole of which came to revitalizing the sports movement and advancing its reality to advanced levels and building a youthful generation that loves sports. Within the activities of the Sheikh Zayed Festival in the Saturah region during the months of July and August, with the participation of all clubs, Al-Hilal Club was crowned a champion after defeating Al-Jazira by penalty kicks in the final match.
The championship was crowned by Al-Hilal Sports Club after it surpassed Radfan with a goal in the final match. The Bu Mubarak Volleyball Championship was also organized at Sheikh Zayed Hadiboh’s Corniche Stadium, which started on November 30 and came as part of the efforts aimed at activating various sports, and it was one of the most wonderful and most competitive tournaments. The attendance of the masses, and the tournament was for Radfan, who managed to defeat Al-Wasl in the final in two rounds against one.
At the end of the sports season, the Bu Mubarak Ironman Race was carried out for 40 competitors from all clubs last Friday, which started from the port of Holaf and concluded at the volleyball court in Sheikh Zayed Corniche after passing its three stages, which are swimming, running and riding bicycles that roamed most of the streets of Hadiboh. A sublime message was presented about the importance of sports and the preservation of youth through it, during which the winners of the first places were honored with the awards presented by the Khalifa Foundation, as well as the contestants for their active participation in the race.
It was worth noting that the Khalifa Foundation has been the official sponsor of the sports sector in the archipelago since 2016, as it provided a lot of support to the branch of the Football Association and Clubs and has a distinctive imprint in transferring the sport of Socotra to an advanced technical, administrative and organizational level through qualifying courses and regular and continuous tournaments in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Council athlete.
The sports sector is preparing during the new sports season to continue the various activities that meet the aspirations of the youth and the sports street.
