Opening season is the best season for the people of Socotra in general and people of Qalansiyah in specific, as it comes after a full isolation away from the external world due to the high-speed seasonal wind that hits Socotra every year. This opening season makes people of Socotra happy and joyful, as fishermen, farmers and herders presume their works as well as the shipping operations in the port.

Abdullah Mohamed highlights that fishermen are very happy for continuation of work after full suspension for 4 months due to the high-speed seasonal wind. He also adds that there is no doubt that the opening season is the most important for fishermen, as they work hard at the beginning of the season to ensure their needs.

Mr. Hani Jamaan, Director of Agriculture Office in Qalansiyah, asserts that the opening season is the one when men and women get ready to clean their farms to plant different kinds of vegetables and fruits. He also adds that traditional planting methods has been the main reason for poor products. However, farmers try, during the opening season, to arrange their needs.

Noah Saad highlights that several rural areas across the northern coastline suffers from lack of rain; therefore, herders move to central and southern areas such as Nujed and Dexam and return during the opening season.

The seasonal wind causes accumulation of tons of plastic materials and papers in streets and on beaches; therefore, people work on cleaning streets and areas upon beginning of the opening season, which is largely supported by Khalifa Foundation through several cleaning and awareness-raising campaigns.
