Khalifa Foundation largely contributed to revival of many heritage events that were performed by the ancestors of Socotra. The camels racing is one of the sports that contributed to getting the heritage to life again. It has been subject of concern by the people of Socotra as a heritage that links present and past. Socotra is one of the places that concern with cultural heritage and seek for preservation of the same.
The concern of the United Arab Emirates in relation with helping the people of Socotra for revival of the old heritage of Socotra based on the experience of the United Arab Emirates in this field. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan concerned with all aspects of heritage, customs and habits that would be one of the great characteristics of the UAE people. He also said “He who does not know his past cannot make the best of his future, for it is from the past that we learn.”
Camels has been subject of concern of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates, in order to improve breeds and working on curing and preserving them. The concern with camels was reflected in concerning with camels and importance of camels in the UAE community.
Khalifa Foundation continued its support to the heritage events through holding number of events including camels racing in Zayed 1 in the Socotra Archipelago. The people of Socotra expressed their thanks and deep appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for the deliberated plan for annual events of camels with support of Khalifa Foundation.
