Raafat Al-Thaqali, Head of the local leadership of the Transitional Council in Socotra Governorate, Raed Al-Jaribi, First Deputy of the Governorate, and a number of sheikhs and dignitaries were briefed on a number of service and development projects being implemented in the governorate, with the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
Al-Thaqali and Al-Juraibi visited the environmentally friendly solar power plant in the capital Hadibo, which operates with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts and is the first of its kind in the archipelago.
The station feeds a number of areas adjacent to the capital, Hadiboh, which service has been reached for the first time.
Al-Thaqali and Al-Juraibi inspected the final preparations process for the fish canning factory project, which is considered one of the largest investment projects in the governorate, which is important in marketing the fishermen’s production and providing job opportunities for its children.
The factory has an estimated storage capacity of two thousand tons, while the daily freezing capacity is fifty tons. It also contains a factory for canning and packaging fish with a production capacity of 96 thousand cans per day, in addition to a special factory for grinding fish waste.
They also inspected the level of equipment at the Soft Drinks and Mineral Water Factory in preparation for its opening in the near future. The factory operates in accordance with international standards, and is important in providing the island’s requirements for mineral water and soft drinks and reduces the pressure of importing them.
Al-Thaqali and Al-Juraibi visited the land designated for the construction of oil derivatives tanks near the port of Socotra.
Al-Thaqali and Al-Juraibi were briefed on the new artesian well-driller provided by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, to dig new artesian wells, given the drought on the island.
Al-Thaqali and Al-Juraibi praised the level of completion of projects that represent a strong tributary to the archipelago and its people and enhance the level of development and optimal investment in it, in addition to expanding basic services in the water sector through drilling artesian wells, which will soon target the western coastal and mountainous areas and the Maumei areas.
Appreciating the efforts of the Khalifa Foundation, its permanent cooperation, and its keenness to implement projects that touch the reality of the needs of the archipelago and its people.
