Launch of the 5th edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival in Sheikh Zayed City 1 in Satorah in South Socotra has largely welcomed by people of Socotra, which expressed their appreciation for the effort afforded in this festival. They asserted that this festival was very important for revival of customs and traditions of Socotra to avoid being neglected and forgotten.
Socotra Online was present to reflect feedback of officials, leaders, citizen, and participants of the festival.
Media Man/ Abdullah Al Mahri mentioned that launch of the festival, in line with instructions of His Excellency Khalfan bin Mubarak Al Mazrouei, General Representative of Khalifa Foundation, would reflect culture, tradition and customs of Socotra. The festival included competitions of: Poet of Socotra, Camels Racing, Milkers, Jumping over Camels, and other popular participations.
Sheikh Abdullah Selim, Sheikh of Satorah, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Khalifa Foundation for its concern with revival of the generic heritage of Socotra, in order to make this area brightening. He added that the festival had welcomed hundreds of visitors from different areas and villages on the Island.
Sheikh Ghanem Al Zahqi, Identifier of Nujed, highlighted that the Fifth edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival would revive customs and traditions of Socotra, which almost forgotten. He added that this was in line with concern of Khalifa Foundation with supporting people of Socotra in different fields.
Sheikh Suliman Fednahen indicated that the launch of this festival would preserve and maintain the heritage of Socotra and highlight its artistic image.
Citizen Mohamed Thani that they were proud to welcome the festival, which was launched in line with instructions of His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazrouei, and expressed his appreciation to Khalifa Foundation. Mubarak Salem Abdehen, Identifier of Qalansiyah, indicated that Khalifa Foundation had a great role in launch of Sheikh Zayed Festival.
Anwar Khamis Al Shawi, Head of Team Qalawa, asserted that participation of the team in the festival would reflect the heritage of Socotra to the people, as it would include several heritage and popular dances. It would instill loving Socotra and its heritage in hearts of new generations. He also expressed his appreciation to Khalifa Foundation for the outstanding effort.
