Outstanding Effort by Khalifa Foundation in Improvement of Education Sector and Support to Distinguished Students

Education sector in Socotra has been under concern of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. Thanks to Khalifa Foundation, the education process in Socotra was stable and has been subject to improvement during the past years. Furthermore, Khalifa Foundation has been main supporter to the distinguished students by providing them with annual academic scholarships, which would contribute to motivating students for acquisition of knowledge to achieve their targets. Workshop, which was organized by Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation, reviewed achievements of Khalifa Foundation in education sector, which was reviewed by official and community entities as well as sheikhs and leaders of Socotra.

Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Representative of Khalifa Foundation in Socotra, highlighted that the Foundation has afforded a great effort in education sector for the sake of stability of education process across Socotra. The Foundation supported education offices across the governorates as well as Hadiboh and Qalansiyah directorates through financial support, contracting with 440 teachers including 40 teachers from Yemeni governorates and 10 from Egypt. In addition, Khalifa Foundation worked on printing and distributing 80,000 school books and rehabilitating 40 schools.

He also highlighted that Khalifa Foundation provided support to education offices across Socotra through provision of transportation means across the western and eastern coastlines, establishment of Ataya Model School, establishment of Socotra Institute for Studies and Consultation, and training of 600 students on English and computer.

He also asserted that the Foundation has concerned with qualifying people of Socotra through providing scholarship for 120 secondary school students to join university in UAE and Egypt as well as approving financial support to 50 students abroad.

Mohamed Abdel Rahman also added that configuration of two laboratories in Al Zahraa and Qalansiyah schools were under progress similar to the one configured in Ataya Model School.

In this regard, Socotra Online met group of people of Socotra to reflect their feedback on achievements of Khalifa Foundation in education sector across Socotra. Mr. Saad Salem Mohamed asserted that Khalifa Foundation had a great role in improvement of education sector across Socotra, and highlighted that such support was not first, as people of Socotra used to witness achievements of the United Arab Emirates in all fields across the island.

Mohamed Hassan highlighted that education sector witnessed a notable support by the United Arab Emirates represented by Khalifa Foundation in Socotra, as the Foundation worked on assuring continuation of education process across Socotra through rehabilitation of schools and provision of school books as well as payment of teachers’ salaries and provision of transportation for students.

Saad Essa highlighted that concerning with education sector by Khalifa Foundation showed that the Foundation has been concerned with improvement of education to build a knowledge-based generation.
