Nujed District in the South of Socotra witnessed the opening ceremony of Nujed annual festival supported by Khalifa Foundation concerning with all aspects of support and concern to the people of Socotra in line with preservation of the heritage, customs and habits.
The Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation launched the festival this year with happiness and large attendance by the people of Socotra from different places across the Island. As the Island had a unique heritage and various folklore, the festival aimed at highlighting and getting people acquainted with this.
Socotra Online reflected the spirit of happiness of the people of Socotra. In this regard, Sultan Ali bin Essa bin Afrar, head of Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation, commended the outstanding effort of Khalifa Foundation in preservation of customs and habits of Socotra. He also added that the festival would include different artistic, handcraft and sport activities. In addition, he expressed his deep appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for the concern with preservation of heritage of Socotra.
Furthermore, Mr. Salem Daheq, Member at Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation, commended the efforts of Khalifa Foundation and all participants. He also assured that the preparations and events of the opening day were result of concern of people with accuracy and professionalism. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Khalifa Foundation and the United Arab Emirates.
In turn, Mr. Mohamed Salem Al Sulaimi expressed his happiness for attending opening of this festival supported by Khalifa Foundation, and added that the various events of the festival would help us in recognizing our customs and traditions. He also thanked teams of Khalifa Foundation for the outstanding effort.
Mr. Faisal Al Busairi, Member at Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation, assured that Khalifa Foundation had a great role in reviving this historical advantage and Socotra customs. He also added that this work was in line with the saying of Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan: “He who does not know his past cannot make the best of his present and future.”
He also expressed his happiness that these festivals would revive beauty of Socotra, and thanked Khalifa Foundation for the great effort.
