The marine pavilion of the Fifth Edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival in Socotra Governorate achieved great success by displaying the marine equipment used by the Socotri fisherman in the past. His daily work, including the manufacture of nets, leech and rookery, and gargoor sakhawi, which are made of palm fronds, and the display of the old boat called Hori and used as a paddle to enter and exit the sea and other equipment that the Socotra fisherman relied on in his daily sea voyage.

The pavilion witnessed a high turnover and received many questions from those interested in this aspect as part of the process of documenting and publishing those ancient works of the Socotra fisherman who lived a decent life and earned his living from his effort, work and handcraft, leaving a great cultural heritage that his generations are proud of in the present and the future.

The distinguished work of the fishermen who participated in the pavilion and the mastery of making equipment highlighted the idea and a clear image of visitors, especially from the new generation, with this work and the extent of the creativity of the Socotri man in the past in finding fishing tools, which in their entirety reflect the culture and civilization of the island’s inhabitants.

The participant in the marine pavilion of the festival, Essa Tamik, said that their participation in the festival has been awaited for a while to highlight their popular heritage in the marine industry and what the Socotra fisherman relied on in the past from fishing equipment in catching various types of marine fishing, stressing that they in the marine pavilion were doing their best to give a practical picture For visitors to this festival about how to manufacture and maintain marine nets and other works related to the sea and Socotra fishing

Abdul Karim Arabhi, a participant in the marine pavilion at the Fifth Edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival, said, “We are trying hard to convey an honorable image to everyone about the marine industries that our children and grandfathers relied on in maritime work, and we bear a great burden of conveying our popular heritage with honesty and sincerity.” He also thanked Khalifa Foundation for its continuous support to revive the cultural heritage of the island.
