Large Audience and Elegant Launch of Nujed Football Championship in Socotra with Support of Khalifa Foundation

Today, on playground of Sheikh Zayed City 1 in the Socotra Archipelago, the Fourth Nujed Football Championship launched with organization of the Football Association and support of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in line with Nujed Festival that includes many cultural, heritage and sport events. It was held with presence of administration of the Football Association, group of sheikhs and leaders, and group of club presidents.

The championship was launched with carrying out the draw, and would last for one and half month, with participation of 18 clubs divided into 4 groups. Al Nassr and Al Minaa were the first to meet in the first match of the first group, and Al Nassr won with three goals for two. The match was managed by Amar Saabab, Field Referee, with assistance of Saleh Al Baidani, First Assistant Referee; Mokhtar Mohamed, Second Assistant Referee; Khamis Sheikhan, Fourth Referee; and Ahmed Ali, Referee Monitor.

During opening, Ahmed Hazoom, the Football Association President, confirmed that the championship was very important to all people of Socotra, especially the youth. In addition, he expressed his thanks and appreciation to Khalifa for the continuous support to sports in Socotra in addition to the effective role to promote sports.

In this regard, Sultan Ali bin Essa bin Afrar, president of Development Committee at Khalifa Foundation expressed his deep appreciation for the outstanding effort by the United Arab Emirates in supporting Socotra in different fields. He also highlighted that Khalifa Foundation was concerned with supporting the sports sector in the Socotra Archipelago to help the youth to avoid unhealthy practices.

The opening ceremony witnessed a large audience reflecting the eager of the people of Socotra to these sport events.
