On Saturday, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation launched, in coordination with the Office of Agriculture and Irrigation in Socotra, and representative of Environment Sector at Khalifa Foundation, a wide campaign to control the palm weevil.
The campaign launched by Khalifa Foundation in Socotra was within the campaign of control of palm weevil and presentation of an integrated program including detailed explanation for farmers on the method of controlling and early discovering the palm weevil in addition to the method of elimination of the palm weevil through provision of medicines and cures.
The campaign divided across Socotra targeting different places on the Island in order to provide cures and train farmers on the way of dealing and early discovering the palm weevil.
It was worth noting that in the first day, the campaign targeted Ayra district in Hadiboh, in which the people welcomed the campaign. Salem AbdelQader Farag, orchard owner, expressed his joy and happiness for this campaign stating that he had not known about the palm weevil before.
He wanted, through Socotra Online, to thank the United Arab Emirates, Representative of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in the Socotra Archipelago, His Excellency Khalfan bin Fadel Al Mazroui.
Abdullatif Mubarak Essa, a citizen in Ayra in Hadiboh, commended the role of the United Arab Emirates in the Socotra Archipelago, especially in the agriculture sector and control of the palm weevil.
The campaign would continue for 30 days, said the Agricultural Engineer Eyad Ali Abdella, 10 days in Hadiboh and its suburbs, 10 days in East of the Island, and 10 days in West and South of the Island.
The Director General of Agriculture and Irrigation in Socotra Governorate, Fahmi Mohamed Saad Al Ghathnani, praised the role of the United Arab Emirates and Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and leader of development in Socotra, His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazroui, in Socotra. He also assured that such wide campaign that launched today for controlling the palm weevil would have a great impact.
