Genena Farms and model farms 1-2 of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation launched harvesting of its vegetables and fruits today.
Iyad Ali Abdella, Agricultural Engineer in Khalifa Foundation, stated to Socotra Online that the farms started today the operations of harvesting vegetables and fruits in Genena farms and model farms 1-2 and distributed them to the local market in the Governorate at suitable prices to meet market needs and provide safe food for Socotra society. He said that the harvest included 35 kinds of vegetables and fruits (potato, tomato, onion, corn, courgette, eggplant, watermelon, strawberry, carrot, okra …etc.).
Iyad mentioned that Khalif bin Zayed Al Nahyan aimed by establishing such farms and green houses at encouraging Socotra society to tend to agriculture and use modern agricultural methods in order to achieve self-sustainment of vegetables.
