Khalifa Foundation distributes the First Batch of Agricultural Seedlings to Farmers in Socotra

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation launched today the distribution of agricultural seedlings to farmers in Socotra Governorate for the fourth consecutive season.

During distribution, which took place in the council of Sultan Ali bin Essa bin Afrar, Iyad Ali Abdullah, the Agricultural Engineer, explained that the foundation distributed agricultural seedlings to farmers as part of its efforts to encourage the people on the island to plant with the beginning of the agricultural season, especially home gardens, to secure healthy food for the family from vegetables and fruits.

Pointing out that during the first batch today, 20,000 agricultural seedlings of tomatoes and peppers were distributed, as the various regions and villages of the island benefited from them, and there is a second batch of seedlings that will be distributed in the coming days.

Abdullah indicated that the seedlings were planted in the Foundation’s multiplication nursery on the island, as part of the Khalifa Foundation’s keenness and interest not to bring any seedlings from abroad to preserve their environmental privacy and continue to help farmers in cultivation.

Sheikh Abdullah Salim, Sheikh of Zayed City 1, said that today he received a batch of agricultural seedlings for the city of Zayed 1 in Satoura, which will be distributed to the people in the city to benefit them in providing vegetables and fruits to families in the city. Sheikh Selim also praised this step from the Khalifa Foundation, which the people of Socotra have been accustomed to such development and humanitarian work for years.

For his part, Sheikh Ghanem Al-Zahqi, Chief of Nujed areas, indicated that he is happy today to attend the receipt of the agricultural seedlings provided by the Khalifa Foundation for Farmers in Socotra. He added that the number of seedlings distributed today would serve to provide families interested in agriculture with the important types of vegetables in human food.

He praised what the Khalifa Foundation offers to Socotra and its residents, which comes in light of the interest and follow-up of its general delegate to the Emirati humanitarian institutions.

Sheikh Mubarak Salem Abdhan, Maarif Qalansiya, touched on the great role played by the distribution of agricultural seedlings on the island for the fourth season, to help hundreds of families to farm and establish home gardens that benefit all family members.
