Currently, Socotra Island enjoys stable electricity in most of its districts, which have been prohibited of electricity for long years. Electricity and energy sector in Socotra has been under concern of continuous support of UAE in order to promote and upgrade the service across the Island.
Five Power Generation Plants
United Arab Emirates, through its humanitarian arm “Khalifa Foundation, has worked to support electricity in Socotra with an accelerated manner through supporting Dexam Power and Water Technology. It supported construction of five main power generation plants to improve electricity in Socotra and ensure provision of electricity around the clock without interruption. In addition, Khalifa Foundation through Dexam Power worked on extension of underground cables to the prohibited districts to provide the people with electricity, as one of the most essential services.
In turn, people of Socotra expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates and Khalifa Foundation to commend the great support and improvement in electricity sector. It was worth noting that technical teams of Khalifa Foundation continued their outstanding efforts to eliminate any emergencies that would interrupt electricity.
According to statements by officials at Khalifa Foundation, the Island witnessed one of the most important achievements on the Island, which was the Solar Power Plant that would be considered as the first of kind in the middle east with 2.5 MW capacity and would contribute to mitigation of costs of fuel arrangement.
Indeed, Socotra Island witnessed outstanding change in electricity sector, which would benefit tens of villages and residential areas in the Socotra Archipelago.
