The Green House farm in the Dalesha of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has achieved great success in continuously supplying the local market with its need of vegetables and fruits and overcoming the challenges it faced, especially in the volatile climate and weak water resources on the island.

The farm has worked to develop its activity by adding new agricultural products by building agricultural houses (green house) to protect agriculture from monsoon winds and a modern irrigation network, in addition to securing water resources through the establishment of water tanks in order to ensure the continuation of crop production and supply the local market with distinct products from vegetables and fruits, which contributed to increasing self-sufficiency in the governorate.

The farm made extensive efforts in the process of multiplying agricultural seedlings of various types of agricultural crops for vegetables and fruits, as the agricultural team of the Khalifa Foundation worked to distribute them to farmers with the aim of encouraging them to farm to secure healthy food for their families, as well as to preserve the privacy of the Socotra environment.

Since its establishment, the farm has witnessed a number of continuous scientific visits to government institutions and university, secondary and basic stage students to get acquainted with its agricultural activity and to learn about its unique and successful agricultural experience, which gave great hope to the people of the island and encouraged them to pay attention to agriculture because of its importance in achieving self-sufficiency in more than one food item.

The triangle of the efforts of the Khalifa Foundation was the main axis in supporting the agricultural sector in the governorate and expanding its activities to raise the number of farms to about 5, including Bashayer 1 farm in the Nujed. The local market to be able to meet the market’s need of vegetables and fruits throughout the year of all kinds and to dispense with import completely.

Khalifa Foundation supported the agricultural sector because of its great importance, with the aim of achieving sustainability in agricultural production, helping food diversification, optimal use of resources, and building the ability to adapt to the difficult weather conditions on the island.
