Fishing is one of the oldest professions in mankind history, and is the profession of most of residents of coastal cities including people of Socotra.

Most of people of the coastal areas in Socotra are naturally fishermen, as all young men witness their fathers and grandfathers working at the sea. Therefore, all those young men cannot resist wish to work at the sea.

Ramadan to fishermen in Socotra is different, as sailing has different taste and sense than any other time, as fishermen enjoy long hours on their boats waiting for fish to provide food for themselves and families.

After a long hard day of fishing, part of products is distributed for free to relatives, needy and neighbors in addition to people who are waiting on beach. Other part is sold to traders, who in turn sell to people of the city.
