Encouragement of Palm Farmers by Dates Factory in Socotra for Marketing of their Products with UAE Support

With support of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Dam Al Akhwen Dates Factory in Socotra was established as the first factory on the Island, which was concerned with purchasing dates from farmers for considerable price to encourage farmers for marketing their products and concerning with the agriculture.

Engineer Iyad Ali, Supervisor of Agriculture at Khalifa Foundation, asserted that the charity hands of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa Foundation, was concerned with supporting the agriculture in Socotra. He also added that establishment of the Dates Factory was in line with the plans of the Foundation in development of agriculture to help them in arrangement of source of income. In addition, he highlighted that the Foundation was concerned with purchasing various types of dates for good prices and allowing for everyone to package their dates for low price.

Socotra Online was present to reflect opinions on this important event and record impressions of the workers. Amany Al Hamed, worker at Dam Al Akhwen Dates Factory in Socotra, mentioned that the factory was considered as the first of kind on the Island, as it was concerned with maintenance of dates in proper way in addition to employment of large number of workers.

Hanan Mohamed Ali mentioned that the process of dates packaging should pass through many phases including sorting types of dates in addition to drying, weighing and packaging. She also expressed her thanks and appreciation to Khalifa Foundation for supporting the farmers and encouraging women for work.

It was worth noting that Khalifa Foundation was always concerned with supporting palm farmers through distribution of seeds and baskets in addition to holding training courses on packaging dates and elimination of palm weevil.
