Most of villages across Socotra suffer from drought twice a year, through which the people of such villages have to purchase water for high prices; thereupon, Khalifa Foundation conducted a survey and evaluation of the life of the people of these villages.

The Foundation worked on drilling 40 artesian wells at least in different places across Socotra, which contributed to helping the people in ending the suffering of purchasing water for high prices.

The people of Socotra would get water easily by using solar-powered pumps that would work on pumping water from the well over the 24 hours. The people of Socotra used to travel for a long distance to get the water.

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation constructed many water tanks in different places across Socotra in addition to launching “suqia Campaign” to provide the remote villages suffering from drought with potable water. It is an annual humanitarian initiative, which is largely appreciated and respected by the people of Socotra, who used to wait for it to help then in ending their suffering.
