Developmental Projects by Khalifa Foundation in Water Sector to help People of Socotra

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation implemented many developmental projects in water sector in Socotra, which ended suffering of tens of remote areas that suffered from lack of water during most of months over the year. This in turn caused instability of life of people in these areas.

Khalifa Foundation always sought to elimination of suffering of people of Socotra in different sector including water, which was largely supported by the Foundation as the most important essential for life.

Report of Khalifa Foundation, which was presented by Ahmed Al Hazmi in the workshop of Khalifa Foundation achievements, highlighted that Khalifa Foundation worked hard on provision of potable water for people of Socotra through drilling 44 artesian wells in different locations on the Island, which suffered from lack of water. In addition, the Foundation constructed 9 tanks with 50 gallons capacity as well as linking to solar power system.

He also added that during period of drought in Socotra, Khalifa Foundation concerned with launching Suqia Campaign to arrange water for people who suffered from lack of water. In turn, the campaign contributed in achievement of stability of life.

In this regard, Socotra Online met sheikhs and beneficiaries of water projects to reflect their feedback on UAE efforts in this sector. Sheikh Saleh Essa Santowi mentioned that Khalifa Foundation constructed artesian wells across the Island to solve the problem of lack of water.

Sheikh Suliman Noah, Sheikh of Salmeho, highlighted that most of areas across the coastline enjoyed stability of water services after construction of artesian wells and tanks to provide people with water. He also commended efforts of Khalifa Foundation and the United Arab Emirates in development of areas of the western coastline.
