Dr. Saad Amer Al Daerhi, Dean of College of Education in Socotra, commended the role of Khalifa Foundation in supporting the College of Education with monthly payments for salaries of the faculty and administrative staff in addition to provision of support with many office equipment. He also highlighted that the visit of the delegation from the College to the United Arab Emirates was very helpful for the College Staff. He mentioned that they attended a workshop on quality of academic education.
He also mentioned that the College was considered as the first post-secondary school education place that was established in the Socotra Archipelago under a Presidential Decree in 2000. It was considered as one of the college following Hadrmout University for Science and Technology. It included during the first year two department; Arabic and Islamic Sciences until amendment in 2016 to be a bachelor. In 2008, English Department was added to be 3 departments, and then in 2010, Social Sciences Department was added to be 4 departments in the College.
He added that this academic year started in time on September 01, 2019 with our concern with ending the academic year in May, but it was suspended due to the novel coronavirus outbreak for sake of safety of students, faculty and administrative staff.
He highlighted that the College had an ambitious plan to develop the College and open new departments such as sciences. However, such ambition was faced with many difficulties and obstacles including rent, low budget and lack of staff.
With regard to the activities implemented by the College, he assured that the College concerns with implementing various programs in the College including qualification of students.
