Dam Al Akhawayn Factory in Socotra Governorate continued its dates packaging work for the current production season, with the support of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

The factory operates according to German specifications and produces 2 to 4 tons per day of ready-made dates for the second year in a row.

The factory, which was considered as the first factory on the island, accommodated 20 girls to work in its various departments, as it is an encouraging opportunity for women to work and acquire new practical skills that will help them improve the living conditions of their families.

The agricultural supervisor, Eng. Iyad Ali, said that the factory is continuing the process of packaging the dates that were received from the farmers in the previous period.. He pointed out that the factory’s production level of dates has reached more than 70 tons so far. He also added that the factory is wrapping the dates after washing, drying, packing, and storing in refrigerated warehouses.

Wafaa Salem, one of the workers in the factory, indicated that the Al-Akhawain blood factory provided a great opportunity for Socotra women to work and undergo important technical practical experiences in her life, as it helps her improve her living situation.

She added that the factory has an active role in helping a large number of farmers buy their produce for this year and make them benefit from their farms, which are one of the main sources they depend on in their lives.

The factory worked to support the farms in several stages, including the distribution of pollen at the beginning of the season and bags to cover the taste of palms, and then the process of receiving dates, which took place in various areas famous for the density of palm trees, including Qaisu, Debneh, Dishas, Mazfor, and Nujed.
