In a festive football wedding and a large audience in attendance, Raafat Al Theqali, President of the Transitional Council in Socotra, and Sultan Ali bin Essa bin Afrar, honored Al Helal Club in the Sheikh Zayed Fifth Football Championship for Socotra Clubs for the first time in its history.
The match saw Al Jazira advance over Al Helal with two goals, which were scored in the 38th minute by striker Saad Ba Suter and in the 50th minute by Ali Mohamed’s header.
Before Al-Jazira announced its return to the meeting and competition in the 59th minute with a goal to reduce the difference scored by its striker Salem Kateb, to return again in the last minute of extra time to score a tie and return the match to the starting point, which ruled for penalty shootouts and smiled at Al Helal after he successfully hit 6 kicks and missed a kick. Al-Jazira missed two hits and scored five, and the result was enough to give birth to a new champion of the championship in its fifth edition.
The tournament, organized by the Football Association branch, with the support of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, which was launched on July 11, as part of the activities of the Fifth Edition of Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, and lasted for more than 40 days.
At the coronation ceremony, the President of the Southern Transitional Council in Socotra, Raafat Al-Thaqali, congratulated Al Helal Club, Al-Jazira Club, Al-Wasif Al-Sharq Club, which won third place, for their achievement and obtaining these advanced positions in the championship. Al-Thaqali said that sports produce positive behaviors, good values and high morals, and encouraging young people to engage in sports is a positive and important matter.
He commended the efforts of the Football Association in Socotra and its working committees, which did their utmost for the success of the tournament and its appearance in a manner befitting the name of Zayed, may God have mercy on him, whose love is still beating around the world.
The coronation ceremony witnessed the honoring of the Football Association branch for the sponsors of the sports sector, who are the general delegate of the Khalifa Foundation, the Socotra development man, the youth sponsor, His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazrouei, the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Raafat Al Thaqali, the Chairman of the Development Committee Sultan Ali bin Issa bin Afrar, and the sports activity official, Ismail Al Junaibi, with certificates of thanks and gratitude for all they have done. Efforts for the advancement and excellence of the sports sector.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Security Belt Brigade, Brigadier General Ali Omar Kafain, the Director General of Public Security, Brigadier Ali Al-Deqsmi, the staff of the 1st Marine Brigade, Brigadier General Mohsen Al-Hajj, and a number of general managers of the Executive Office, heads of clubs and social figures.
