They briefed Raed Al-Juraibi, First Undersecretary of Socotra Governorate, the Acting Head of the Local Command of the Southern Transitional Council, and Brigadier General Ali Al-Dexami, the Director General of Police, on the progress of work on the project to establish Rabdan Sports and Cultural Stadium in Sheikh Zayed City 1 in the Seteroh region, south of the island, with the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The project, which is being prepared on an area of 18,000 square meters, consists of seats for the masses and seats for senior guests, changing rooms, a restroom for sports teams, a referees’ room and a store. It also includes a traditional folk market with all the stages attached to it.
During their visit, Al-Juraibi and Al-Dexami listened to a detailed explanation from the engineering team about the project, its construction work, the ongoing work phases, and the service provided by the project to youth and athletes, as well as to Socotra culture and those interested in heritage and history through a popular market that embodies the unique cultural diversity of the island.
Al-Jaribi and Brigadier General Al-Dexami praised the continuous and accelerated efforts and work he witnessed to complete the project, which is considered one of the largest sports, youth and cultural projects at the governorate level, stressing that Sheikh Zayed City 1 is one of the densely populated cities, and the implementation of these projects in it contributes to serving a large number of young people and refining their abilities. In addition to its importance in preserving the diverse cultural heritage of Socotra.
Appreciating the support of the Khalifa Foundation and its keenness to implement such projects of importance to the youth and cultural sector, which need attention and care, as they are the treasure of the governorate in the present and the future.
Sheikh Zayed City 1 hosts annually the activities of the Sheikh Zayed Festival, which includes a variety of cultural, heritage and sports activities that last for two whole months, and which concludes with the mass wedding of Socotra youth and girls.
