The agricultural sector of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has launched the process of distributing palm Seedlings to the owners of palm orchards in Socotra Governorate.
Eng. Iyad Abdullah, the agricultural sector official, explained that the process of distributing palm pollen comes within the framework of the encouraging efforts provided by the Foundation to the people of Socotra to take care of palm trees and enhance the production of dates of all kinds on the island.
He pointed out that the process of distributing the vaccine in the Majlis of Sultan Ali bin Isa bin Afrar, which targeted the areas of palm concentration on the island, in order to contribute and participate in supporting the date producer.
Abdullah added that distributing the vaccine today was the first step in the support provided by the Foundation to date palm farmers for the success of their productive season.
Where special bags were dispensed to cover the neck of the palms for the fourth time in a row to preserve their production from precipitation due to the climatic factors that the island is witnessing during the autumn period, and then the door to purchase production was opened by the Socotra Dates Packaging Factory for those who wish to sell their produce from farmers to prepare it using modern methods.
It was worth noting that the palm tree was an important national treasure on the island, and it was not only a source of food, but was linked to the Socotra cultural heritage, and what distinguished it was that it adapted to the local desert environment, and bore high temperatures and drought.
