The women’s handicrafts section of the Fifth Edition of Sheikh Zayed Festival in Socotra Governorate has received extensive attention, follow-up and attendance of visitors to the festival, due to its presentations of handicraft products made by Socotri women. It takes many classifications and labels in the Socotri language, such as Jasfa, Kaz, Futi, Sfalha, Zaraf, Magmar Sharhin, Ordinary Majmarah, Sefa and his people.
The women’s section also featured women’s handicrafts made from palm fronds and formed from different types, including the drained in the Socotri language, the mats, and the Socotra language besieger and hand baskets in the Socotri language, Misfi, clothes bags in the Socotra language, Dikliho and the imperative of Socotra, and the rope that is made to connect the palms when the dates are ripe
Shellat works of all kinds, which are called Socotra Hadhul, gave a distinctive flavor and a beautiful image of the wonderful Socotra crafts, which are made of sheep’s hair and are woven in a literal way through a sequential work starting from (mizhal) in which hair is combined to make shemals and (Maftek), which is dedicated to refuting sheep hair and making Shemalls and (heaving) in which sheaves are sewed (bed), and it is a bag in which the tools for making shemalls are kept.
It is noteworthy that the festival also witnessed performances of the ancient Socotri women’s dress (Galaqa and Naqba) and the way of wearing it through the participation of a number of Socotra girls in this ancient dress of Socotri women.
